Activity Description

Patients with diabetic macular edema (DME) and neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) often experience persistent fluid, visual decline, and treatment fatigue despite access to approved anti-vascular endothial growth factor (VEGF) therapies, reflecting underlying gaps in biomarker-guided care. Although anti-VEGF agents remain foundational to management, variable responses and pharmacologic resistance highlight the complexity of these diseases, which are driven by multifactorial mechanisms including inflammation, vascular instability, and structural retinal changes. Imaging biomarkers identified on optical coherence tomography and fluorescein angiography offer valuable insights into disease activity and therapeutic response, yet are not consistently integrated into clinical decision-making. Emerging evidence from clinical trials and real-world studies demonstrate that second-generation anti-VEGF agents and corticosteroid therapies can improve anatomic and visual outcomes while enabling extended dosing intervals in both DME and nAMD. In this CE activity, expert faculty apply clinical biomarker data to guide treatment selection and monitoring of patients with DME and nAMD. They also review how to individualize treatment for these patients based on mechanisms of action and durability data.

The intended audience for this activity is retina specialists and comprehensive ophthalmologists involved in the management of patients with DME or nAMD.

If a satisfactory score on the posttest is achieved, Vindico Medical Education will issue an AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ certificate.
