Activity Description
Neurotrophic keratitis (NK) is a degenerative corneal disease that is often underrecognized due to reduced corneal sensitivity and minimal early symptoms, placing patients at risk for progressive epithelial breakdown and vision loss. This CE activity highlights key risk factors for NK and reviews evidence-based tools and preoperative assessments to support timely identification of affected and at-risk individuals. Through an interactive data review and case study, experts apply the latest clinical evidence to guide the development of individualized, stage-appropriate treatment plans, emphasizing interprofessional collaboration to promote corneal healing, restore corneal sensitivity, and improve patient outcomes.
Target Audience
The intended audience for this activity includes ophthalmologists and optometrists involved in the management of patients with NK.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Recognize the risk factors for the development of NK.
- Identify patients with NK using evidence-based tools and preoperative assessments.
- Create treatment plans for patients with NK using the latest clinical evidence and interprofessional collaboration.
