Activity Description

Clinicians face increasing complexity in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) prevention as new data highlight the importance of cumulative low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) exposure, the impact of elevated lipoprotein(a) (Lp[a]), and the expanding role of combination therapy and nonstatin agents. In response, recently updated guidelines refine recommendations for risk assessment, establish target thresholds for treatment, and emphasize earlier management to reduce lifelong exposure to atherogenic lipoproteins. This case-based CME activity will review key recommendations for primary and secondary prevention of ASCVD and engage learners through clinical scenarios in which expert faculty will discuss practical implementation of the updated guidelines. 

Target Audience

The intended audience for this activity is physicians and advanced practice providers specializing in cardiology as well as internists, endocrinologists, pharmacists, nurses, and all others involved in the management of patients with or at risk of ASCVD.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

• Recognize the impact of cumulative LDL-C exposure on cardiovascular risk.
• Examine the rationale for Lp(a) screening as an important part of cardiovascular risk assessment.
• Review updated guideline recommendations for the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease.
• Evaluate the latest clinical evidence for current and emerging lipid-lowering therapies.
• Discuss strategies to improve the knowledge, skills, or performance of the healthcare team.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 1.75 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

Participants who opt in by providing their ABIM ID and DOB (MM/DD) will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity.

Vindico Medical Education has been authorized by the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This program is acceptable for 1.75 contact hours of ACPE Continuing Education Credit. The ACPE Universal Program Number is JA0006104-9999-26-009-H01-P, effective 08/06/2026. This is a knowledge-based activity, and there is no fee to attend.

*IMPORTANT* Pharmacists MUST request credit within 60 days of activity completion. Upon receipt of the completed activity evaluation form, transcript information will be available at CPE Monitor within 4 weeks.

This enduring material is approved for 1 year from the date of original release, August 6, 2026, to August 5, 2027.

How to Participate in This Activity and Obtain CE Credit

To participate in this activity, you must read the objectives, answer the polling and pretest questions, view the content, and complete the posttest and evaluation. Provide only one (1) correct answer for each question. A satisfactory score is defined as answering 4 out of 6 of the posttest questions correctly. If a satisfactory score on the posttest is achieved, Vindico Medical Education will issue an AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ Certificate, AAPA Category 1 CME Certificate, Contact Hour Certificate, or Statement of Continuing Pharmacy Education Credit.

In addition to providing a downloadable certificate, CME Providers accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) have the ability to transmit CME credit data for all US physicians to an online repository, the ACCME Program and Activity Reporting System (PARS). CME credit data submitted to PARS can be viewed, managed, and tracked by US physicians in "CME Passport," a free, centralized web application. US physicians who opt-in by providing their medical license number, state of licensure, and date of birth will have their credits automatically reported to the ACCME.
