Activity Description

Novel therapeutic approaches for the management of retinal diseases continue to evolve, offering the potential for enhanced visual outcomes, reduced treatment burden, and improved patient quality of life. Therapeutic advances such as gene therapy, sustained delivery platforms, intravitreal regenerative and optogenetic approaches, compliment inhibitors, and agents that target unique pathways involved in the pathogenesis of retinal diseases are currently being evaluated in clinical studies. However, keeping abreast of data on these innovative therapies and how they potentially can be integrated into treatment protocols can be challenging. In this CE activity, experts in the field review the most promising emerging therapeutics in retinal disease, evaluate their clinical potential, and assess the challenges and opportunities in translating early-stage innovation into clinical practice.

Target Audience

The intended audience for this activity is retina specialists and ophthalmologists involved in the management of patients with retinal diseases.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

Describe the most promising emerging therapeutics in retinal disease, including gene therapies, sustained delivery platforms, and complement inhibitors.
Evaluate the clinical potential of new therapies under development.
Discuss the challenges and opportunities in translating early-stage innovation into clinical practice.
Evaluate clinical trial endpoints and most recent FDA guidance in treatment outcomes of interest for registration studies.
Review current knowledge to anticipate how upcoming therapies might alter treatment paradigms for geographic atrophy, neovascular age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, inherited retinal diseases, and retinal vein occlusion.

To participate in this activity, you must read the objectives, answer the polling and pretest questions, view the content, and complete the posttest and evaluation. Provide only one (1) correct answer for each question. A satisfactory score is defined as answering 5 of the 7 posttest questions correctly. If a satisfactory score on the posttest is achieved, Vindico Medical Education will issue an AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ certificate.

In addition to providing a downloadable certificate, CME Providers accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) have the ability to transmit CME credit data for all US physicians to an online repository, the ACCME Program and Activity Reporting System (PARS).
