James A. Underberg, MD, MS, FACPM, FACP, FASH, FNLA, is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine at NYU Medical School and is a member of the executive committee of the Division of General Internal Medicine. His clinical focus is Preventive Cardiovascular Medicine. He is an American Society of Hypertension Certified Specialist in Clinical Hypertension, a Diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Lipidology, and a North American Menopause Society Certified Menopause Practitioner. Dr. Underberg is the founder and President of the New York Preventive Cardiovascular Society and is a fellow of the Society of Vascular Medicine and Biology. He graduated from Yale University with a BS and MS and received his MD from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School before completing his internship and residency at Bellevue Hospital Medical Center. He is currently involved in several clinical trials in the areas of hypertension, lipids, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Dr. Underberg sees patients both in the Bellevue Hospital Lipid Clinic and in a private referral practice that was recently recognized by the American Heart Association Heart-Stroke Recognition Program for excellence in preventive cardiovascular medicine.

Michael Miller, MD, FACC, FAHA, is a professor of cardiovascular medicine, epidemiology and public health and director of the Center for Preventive Cardiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine with American Board of Internal Medicine certification in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. He is also a diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Lipidology.

Dr. Miller has co-authored more than 250 original articles, book chapters, and other publications that have appeared in Science, The New England Journal of Medicine, the British Medical Journal, Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, and JAMA. He is the co-author of 3 books, “The Practice of Coronary Disease Prevention” (Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins, 1996), “The American Medical Association Guide to Preventing and Treating Heart Disease” (Wiley, 2008) and “Heal Your Heart, The Positive Emotions Prescription to Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease” (Rodale, 2014). Dr. Miller has contributed to the American College of Cardiology Self-Assessment Program (ACCSAP) for board certification and chaired the American Heart Association Scientific Statement: “Triglycerides and Cardiovascular Disease.” He has served as a consultant to the National Library of Medicine and the United States Postal Service for the “Heart Health” stamp issued in 2012. In addition to serving on several editorial boards, he is a Council Member of the American Heart Association Nutrition Committee and the Governor’s Advisory Council on Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention.
